blood pressure (BP) monitor is a device used to measure the pressure of blood against artery walls, providing both systolic (when the heart beats) and diastolic (when the heart rests) readings. These devices consist of an inflatable cuff that wraps around the arm, and can be manual or digital. Digital models are commonly used at home because they provide an easy-to-read, automatic digital display, while manual devices require a stethoscope and more user expertise.

Digital monitors: These are the most common type for home use.
They use oscillometric technology to measure pressure by detecting the vibration of blood in the arteries, eliminating the need for a stethoscope.
They can be semi-automatic (requiring a squeeze bulb to inflate) or automatic (inflating on their own).
A digital screen displays the systolic and diastolic readings, and often the pulse rate.

Key features and functions
Cuff: A band that wraps around the upper arm to temporarily stop and then release blood flow through the artery.
Inflation/deflation: The cuff inflates to stop blood flow, and then slowly deflates to allow it to return.
Reading: The device measures the pressure at two key points:
Systolic: The pressure when the heart pumps.
Diastolic: The pressure when the heart rests between beats.
Pulse: Many digital monitors also show the pulse rate, or the number of heartbeats per minute.
