A range of Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) Measuring Tapes are available through UNICEF Supply Division. MUAC tapes are predominately used to measure the upper arm circumference of children but also that of pregnant women, helping identify malnutrition.
A mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) tape is a measuring tool used to identify malnutrition in children and pregnant women by measuring the circumference of their upper arm. MUAC tapes are graduated in millimeters and some are color coded to indicate nutritional status:

Color coded: Red indicates severe acute malnutrition, yellow indicates moderate malnutrition, and green indicates normal nutritional status.

Graduated in millimeters: All MUAC tapes are graduated in millimeters.

MUAC tapes are used in community and hospital settings to screen for malnutrition. They can help identify children who need treatment quickly.

UNICEF offers MUAC tapes through the UNICEF Supply Division. They also provide downloadable files for printing MUAC tapes locally on synthetic paper using a high-quality printer. The files include diagrams that explain how to use the tape to find the middle of the arm.

To measure MUAC, you can:
Measure from the elbow to the bony prominence in the shoulder.
Mark the midpoint in pen.
Ask the person to hang their arm loose.
Measure around the midpoint of the arm to the nearest millimeter.
Ensure that the tape is snug but not too tight or too loose.
